- Arbitrage
- Betting on all possible outcomes of an event across different sportsbooks to guarantee a profit.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap system that eliminates the draw outcome and uses half-goal or quarter-goal lines to avoid ties.
- Back
- To place a bet on an outcome happening, the opposite of a lay.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for placing bets.
- Cover
- When a team wins by more than the point spread or handicap, they are said to have covered the line.
- Futures
- A bet placed on an event that will be decided in the future, such as which team will win the World Cup.
- Goal Line
- A spread-like line set for soccer matches, often set at a number of goals, where you bet if a team will win by more or less than that line.
- Handicap
- A point adjustment given to one team to make the betting more even.
- In-Play Betting
- Betting on a match after it has already started, with odds that update as the game progresses.
- Juice
- Another term for vig; the extra percentage the sportsbook charges for a bet.
- Kelly Criterion
- A mathematical formula used to determine the optimal size of a bet based on your edge and bankroll.
- Lay
- To place a bet against an outcome happening, often used when betting against a team to win.
- Line Movement
- Changes in the betting line or odds over time, often due to new information or heavy betting.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win the match, with odds shown as a positive or negative number.
- Odds
- The numerical expression of how likely an outcome is, and how much you can win if your bet is correct.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals in a match will be higher or lower than a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet that links two or more individual bets, and all must win for the parlay to pay out.
- Public Money
- The amount of bets placed by the general public, which can influence line movement.
- Push
- When a bet ends in a tie against the spread, resulting in the stake being returned.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a single bet.
- Steam
- Rapid, widespread movement of odds or line shifts caused by heavy betting action.
- Units
- A standardized measure of bet size, often equal to a small percentage of your bankroll, used to track performance.
- Vig
- The fee or cut that a sportsbook takes for accepting a bet, usually built into the odds.
